1. Email superintendent Dr. Amalia Cudeiro (Cudeiroa@bsd405.org).
One of Dr. Cudeiro's goals for the district is to eliminate the achievement gap. Many studies have shown that schools with librarians who collaborate with teachers and that have well-funded collections improve student achievement. Request that teacher-librarians be reinstated into the libraries of secondary schools. 2. Email the Board of Directors, Superintendent and your principal throughout the school year when the lack of a secondary school librarian affects you, your child(ren) or a teacher. Feedback from the school community is vital. 3. Write to the Board of Directors asking that they support a quality education for our children by establishing a policy that requires all schools to have a school library that is staffed by a teacher-librarian. 4. Get in touch with your school principal. Encourage your principal to support making teacher-librarians a top priority if additional funding becomes available. 5. Write to your state legislators. Thank your legislators for their support of school libraries in the past and tell them how important it is to you that your children have a teacher-librarian in the middle and high school libraries and that you are concerned that cutting school library media programs will impact the quality of your child's education.
