Physics in Belgium

In 2005, the Belgian National Committee for Physics, in collaboration with the Belgian Physical Society, created an overview of the research activities in physics in Belgium. Different subfields of physics were reviewed: the categories correspond to the following categories used by IUPAP, the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics:
  01. Structure and Dynamics of Condensed Matter
  02. Particles, Fields and Cosmic Rays
  03. Nuclear Physics
  04. Plasma Physics
  05. Mathematical Physics
  06. Atomic and Molecular Physics
  07. Astrophysics
  08. Statistical Physics
  09. Computational Physics
  10. Quantum Electronics and Photonics
  12. Semiconductor Physics
  13. Magnetism
  14. Physics for Development
  15. Physics Education

The pdf documents below are reprints from this report, which appeared in Physicalia Magazine 27, issue 2. Each document contains an overview of the major players in the fields, of the activities of the different universities and institutes, and their websites/contact information. Each document was compiled by a leading physicist in the corresponding research field. Although some of the information, dating from 2005, may not be up to date, we still feel that these documents are useful for anyone who wishes to have an overview of physics in Belgium. We also encourage anyone who wants to modify or update these documents to contact us.
