CERN KIEST VOOR COMSOL

Zoetermeer, 8 december 2011 - CERN, de Europese Organisatie voor Nucleair Onderzoek, en het grootste laboratorium voor deeltjes fysica, heeft een floating netwerk licentie en diverse add-on modules afgenomen bij COMSOL Multiphysics. De licentie zorgt ervoor dat alle wetenschappers en ingenieurs bij CERN toegang hebben tot zeer realistische simulatie software. Hiermee worden natuurkundige berekeningen gemaakt ten behoeve van onderzoek, systeem ontwerpen en ontwikkeling.

ISEMS2 conference announcement

BNCP Cosmology Colloquium

GeoFlow challenge

The European Space Agency is organising the GeoFlow challenge, a competition open to PhD students or Postdocs interested in computational fluid dynamics and its comparison with experimental data. The challenge is meant to sponsor a two-year Postdoc position (in the form of an ESA external
 fellowship) at one of the institutions among those participating to the network supported by ESA: the 'Topical Team' on Geophysical flow simulations.


 The fellowship shall include a part time involvement in the
 GeoFlow II
 experiment and participation in the activities of the topical
 team.

Nanomaterials conference announcement

The IAP-INANOMAT network funded by the Belgian Science Policy (BELSPO) and bringing together actors from several Belgian Universities, extends a cordial invitation to all researchers with an interest in advanced complex nanomaterials, to participate in the International Symposium on Advanced Complex Inorganic Nanomaterials (ACIN 2011) that will be held in Belgium from September 11 to 14, 2011.

Radiation protection course for medical physicists

NJP discount for BPS members

As the conference season is beginning, many of you are finalizing manuscripts to submit to outstanding journals, such as the European Physical Journal, one of our main sponsors, http://www.epj.org/, also endorsed by the EPS.

For those of you who choose open-souce publishing and in particular the New Journal of Physics (impact factor 3.440, http://iopscience.iop.org/1367-2630/), we have good news: as a member of the Belgian Physical Society you enjoy a rebate on the article charge: you pay 660 EUR in stead of the regular 715 EUR.

Belgian Hospital Physicist Association

Physicists working at or for a hospital will be interested to know that there is a specific association addressing their needs, the BHPA. You can find more information on their webpage, http://www.bhpa2011.be .  On 4 and 5 February 2011 the BHPA holds a meeting in Charleroi, which we recommend for all physicists in this field.
