Farmhouse Ale Tour of Belgium & France Video

The Best Damn Farmhouse Ale Tour of Belgium & France--Oct. 8-13, 2012. Six days, five nights.

The Best Damn Farmhouse Ale Tour of Belgium & France and The Lonely Monks Trappist Beer Tour of Belgium & the Netherlands for 2011 just wrapped and went great.  Thank you to all the beer travelers, who participated in these amazing tours!  Some really great images from both tours are now on the BBM! Facebook page at facebook.com/beertours.belgium
Take a moment to view them and like the BBM! FB page.  You do not need to be signed up with Facebook to view these images.

The Basics of this Tour:

Venture into the elusive and obscure world of saisons and biére de gardes, whose roots can

be traced to rustic ales once brewed on farms in this wide area once known as the Kingdom of Flanders (which then included parts of France and the Netherlands).  We’ll visit some small independent artisanal breweries still located on working farms and some large, modern ones, all situated in scenic countryside locations, where we’ll experience these satisfying ales.  Think Dupont, Fantome, Kerkom (pictured above), Blaugies, Dubuisson, Thiriez, La Choulette, Jenlain, CH ‘Ti, 3 Monts, 2 Caps & St. Armand.  These are some of the breweries the tour has encompassed in the past.  We will not necessarily visit all of these.  Each year's itinerary will vary to take in different opportunities.  Also, be assured, we will have access to many styles of beer on this tour in addition to farmhouse ales.

As a bonus, we will also visit the taproom of Trappist Westlvleteren, too, since we will be in the neighborhood!

We will also be segueing into France for some beer hunting.  France has some amazing, but little known, beers and specifically farmhouse ales.  If you have not yet discovered this fine French beer, you will be delightfully surprised.  We will also visit and have dinner in the charming and romantic town of Cassel, located on one of three small “mountains” that rise out of the bucolic farm country of the Nord department of France.

Farmhouse ales, with a few exceptions such as Kerkom, come mostly from Wallonia region of Belgium in the south and the northwestern French departments of Nord and Pas de Calais.

On this tour you will be staying mostly in scenic rural

towns of Belgium, such as Durbuy and Watou.  We will visit many breweries, beer cafés, and brewery taps.

Tour includes ground transportation, hotels, admissions, all breakfasts, three dinners and three lunches. It does not include airfare.  Fall is the perfect time to visit Belgium.  Combine this tour with the Lonely Monks Trappist Tour that immediately follows and have a grand two-week tour of beer paradise.

Deadline to sign up is Sept. 15, 2012.

$1595 land only, $325 single supplement.*
