The Bayit

We are the Beit Ephraim Food Co-Op ("The Bayit"): the nation’s oldest communal housing run by Jewish students. Located two blocks south of Columbia's campus, life at the Bayit is based on principles of Jewish leadership, volunteerism, and communal responsibility.

Bayit residents are undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of Jewish backgrounds who come together each semester to share a student housing environment with a uniquely warm atmosphere unlike any other in NYC.

Testimonials

"Living in the Bayit means having a home away from home. The Bayit is an amazing place for those willing engage in a life of sharing and discovering within a pluralistic and warm Jewish environment." -- Isaac (Columbia Law School '23)

"The Bayit is the best part of my experience at Columbia. It means so much to me that I always have a welcoming and kind group of people to come home to. I would recommend the Bayit to anyone who values community and is looking to make great friends." -- Nina (Barnard '23)

"I love getting together to celebrate Shabbat with spirited Kabbalat Shabbats and lively potluck dinners!" -- Talia (Barnard '22)

"Living in the Bayit is the best decision I’ve made in college. Having the opportunity to sit down at the end of a day with my closest friends and a home cooked dinner is the most nourishing action I take every day to keep setting myself up for success." -- Boaz (Columbia/JTS '23)
