Welcome to Google Sites. These few pages are to show what can be done with this application. Sites allows you to set up as many web sites as you like. It is wiki, which means that it is easy to edit, can be shared with others, and keeps a history of pages. So if you make a mistake you can always go back to the old version of a page. The purpose of this exerciese is:
- to learn how to edit and manage a wiki (web site)
- to set up your Sites account so that you can use other sites in your teaching - and convert it to Chinese language.
To start your own Site, first, get your Google Account (see Home page, Getting Started) then go to http://sites.google.com and log in.

[photo flickr.com/photos/n0r/] | How to set up your site First, you need a Google Account, which you will set up to join Beijing Talk (Google Groups). On any Google site find 'More', and there is a list of applications. Find Sites and login. Give your first site a name that is based on your name to make it easy to connect it to you. Later on you can add more and more sites for your own purposes or for your students. Layout You can change the appearance of your site by choosing a template from Manage Site. Also, see the Layout menu and you can choose from a number of formats for your page - like the 3 column display for this page. Images They make your page come to life. Every page should have images to support the text. Images often look best when the text is wrapped around as is done in this case. | What to put in your site Just about anything. You might think of some examples of student work that they could add to a wiki. Maybe a cooperative task for several students? Maybe a personal interest you have - a hobby, a club, an interesting technology. I might create a few pages about my new grandchild, Gabriel, who lives in London and as you can see is a rather beautiful boy. The best idea to to choose a topic you know something about and make a display that will interest others. |
