?What do we leave behind when we cross each frontier? Each moment seems split in two; melancholy for what was left behind and the excitement of entering a new land? Ernesto Guevara I have been reading the motorcycle diaries on our trip and this line from his diary really sums up how we?re feeling. We loved southern Thailand and it?s interesting that in each area of Thailand there seems to be almost a brand new place and country. We explored Sumui on a scooter which was crazy but fun? and we saw a quaint fisherman?s village, the big Buda shrine and stopped in at a Hindi temple where the monk was incredibly friendly and posed for pictures with us and proudly showed off the temple.. We moved from Koh Samui to Koh Phagen Island to a beach recommended to us by a few people at Beer?s house. We traveled with our new Australian friends Marti & Katherine (shout out to our really cool friends--- we had so much fun and miss you guys?major congrats on the engagement!! We?re excited for you and think buckets and fire dancers would make a great reception J--- you?re welcome at our place) to a beach up north. Had we known about this place we would have moved much sooner. There are only a few bungalows on the beach and in its center a bar and restaurant called of all the clever things ?the center bar & restaurant?. The place everyone on the tiny beach hangs out at night. Most faces seem familiar by day 2 and each late afternoon there were volley-ball games? the staff at the center was so cool that when Kat went to buy some water all the stores were unmanned because they were all in the volleyball game?. And one of the locals looked like the Mr. Miagi of volley-ball? Thursday night they had a huge and tasty bbq and bonfire party on the beach.. The dj was great and we had a lot of fun.. they even had fiery object jugglers and fireworks? we kayaked to another beach and went on a snorkeling trip.. Overall real community feel and very laidback?. We are now in Bangkok and missing the beach but really looking forward to Cambodia? we leave tomorrow at 7 am and will arrive in the late afternoon? just finished reading ?First they killed my father, a daughter of Cambodia remembers? excellent read and for anyone that is interested in what happened in the 70?s there I highly recommend? we are planning on seeing ankor wat and the killing fields? dave and I are well.. he has a slight ear infection from snorkeling but got some medicine today but other than that we?re just excited to explore the next few weeks.. we are thinking we?ll stay a week more in Thailand?. Seriously it?s that incredible? we love & miss c&d
