Sao Joao Festival in Goa is held in the last week of June every year. It is akin to a Feast and has been in vogue in the predominantly Roman Catholic christian community with lots of local overtones. The celebrations are dedicated to St John the Baptist and in typically Goan fashion it is a day for revelry and exchange of gifts and favours. The monsoon is active at this time of the year and it is as much a celebration of water and good spirits. Siolim holds one large congregation of people who throng the small riverside area and there is music in the air and much cheer going around through the late afternoon. This how ever may be the commercial aspect of it with booming speakers and loud music. Crowns of flowers and leaves are made specially and people adorn their heads with the tiaras. If you want to go buy one, there are no sellers. Here is a good opportunity for a small business venture.
