beanz #10 the mushroom incident . . .
This is what happened. While she was eating her rice, I speared a mushroom (she hates them) on my fork and said: "Ew, look at this!" I waved the cooked fungus in front of her. She looked directly at me and -- with the most hilariously serious expression, replied: "I don't care, that doesn't bother me one bit." Me: "Yes it does." Her: "No it does not!" A few seconds of silence (me still holding out the mushroom, grinning like the cheshire cat) pass. She gets weary of this and says: "Ok, put one on my plate and see if I don't eat it. Just a little piece." So I do. She forks it into her mouth and nearly gags (heehee). She makes a horrible face and spits it out into her napkin, giving me a really dirty look because I am laughing so hard. Then she starts laughing too. The half-chewed mushroom is folded inside her napkin and put on MY plate. I keep glancing at it (the napkin). She follows my gaze and starts to giggle. Me: "You wanna take that home? It's not so bad, just all slimy going down your gullet." Well, from this point on, it's a running joke between us. When the waitress comes to take it away, we break out into giggles all over again! Well that's the story. Sorry if it's too long and boring, but it was one of the high points of the meal. Ah, still a loopy lass.

Ok, so story behind THIS picture and the next. I'm walking past one of those signs that unfold. This one is folded up and leaning against something. As I walk past, the sign falls heavily on the ground. I turn around, walk back and put it back. This cute asian girl runs out and asks if I'm ok, I say yeah, the sign dropped. Next door there is another asian woman and she asks me if I want to come in for breakfast or lunch. I said I just ate but asked if they had any water. So she invted me in and showed me the bottled water they had. So I picked one and bought it. I asked if I could drink it there, she said sure. So while I was drinking she was talking to me about how she was from Seoul and how hard she's working for her retirement, how they are trying ot recycle things. How they, her and her husband, lived in Virginia for awhile. Very social lady, very nice and cordial. After I finished my water, I turned around and saw that a LOT of people had left notes on napkins and bills and postcards from all over the world. It was amazing. I asked her if I could get a picture she said yes. So I took one of the wall.
