Sunrise welcome Hmong spirit
Explore #194 on Monday, November 24, 2008 My sunrise set was done, but than I saw this… This image was shot on this date last year in Lao Chai village near Sapa, Vietnam. The occasion was the anniversary for my friend mother passing, three years earlier. I was among the first to come to this whole day ceremony, where the Hmong believe the spirit of those gone come back to mingle among them for the day. There were several hundreds visitors coming all day long, from near and a far, bringing gifts of rice and wine. The Hmong call this “a party”. I asked Mu, a sister of my friend So, to pose for me as the sun was rising over the Muong Hoa valley. Thanks ..
Free spirit
Free Spirit was apparently a house brand of Sears making fitness equipment like treadmills and 10 speeds like the bike that time forgot here. By some reports the old things are uber-reliable tanks. I can't say I'm sure about that but I'd like to draw attention to the oh-so-hip flipped road bars and the length of hardware store chain that is just crying to be cut.
