Welcome to the Beckermond flock of Whitefaced Woodland sheep.
This flock of rare breed hill sheep lives in the Yorkshire Dales on land which extends from the River Wharfe up to open moorland at almost 2,000 feet above sea level.
We keep a small flock of approximately 50 breeding ewes, 4 or 5 rams (tups), and about a dozen year old female sheep in readiness for the following year.
Ram (tup) lambs are usually sold for the table in the autumn of their birth, whereas their female siblings (gimmers) will be kept over the winter and sold as breeding stock in early Spring.
A small number of the better tup lambs are usually kept until they are about 18 months old, when they also can be sold as breeding stock.
