Beatles Tune in New Beer Commercial

Beatle Kid's Song to Sell Alcohol?

OK, OK, I admit it I like it. At first I believed I was going to call for a ban on Budweiser due to the beer companies airing of the Beatles All Together Now in a beer ad. But, after viewing the ad, I really enjoyed the cover song and the visuals.

Maybe it's OK to keep the Beatleshits in the public eye so they will live on. Or, does it damage the music to use what Beatle Paul says was written as a kids song to push alcohol? Leave your comments below!

Budweiser had the advertisment created over 5 days on a Chicago commutor train. The beggining shot of the city skyline looks a lot like the opening view of the Liverpool skyline in the movie Yellow Submarine. The beer advertisement includes a marching band, a giant inflateable panda bear, cheerleaders, a running groom and his bride and other people all over the city spelling out the lyrics to the song..

Budweiser does not control the copyright to the recording of the Beatles version of All Together Now, so they brought in a group named The Hours to rerecord an extremely similar cover copy. The Hours version of All Together Now even includes the party noises and toy horn. I guess the Beatle hit wouldn't end right without the little honk honk. The big difference is that the singer is a female, but with very Beatleish voices singing background vocals.

Supposedly the band recorded their cover of the song in a hotel using a fire extinguisher clanging a metal radiator for percussion. Sounds very shaped by Lennon's hotel bed-in recording of Give Peace a Chance. I have my doubts if it actually was created in the group's hotel room. But supposedly there's film of them recording it. So I'm probably mistaken.

The Hours bandmembers have performed with Joe Strummer, Robbie Williams, Pulp, Elastica, and Black Grape. Right now the band is on tour opening for U2.

The advertising company behind the ad stated that they spent 50 hours over five days shooting the three hundred actors from the train attempting to hold everything in time with the All Together Now lyrics. Looks as if the ad agency had to edit to to pull it off. Certainly not a single shot, which would have been cool but almost insurmountable.

The beer ad took a crew of 125 crew members and an extra thirty five sets in addition to the scenic Chicago backdrop and commuter train.

The spot will be televised in the United Kingdom on the fourth of July. I guess as payback for the US declaring independence from England, we will not see the advertisment in the United States.
