Read Books with Bite @ your library during Teen Read Week, October 17-23. Drop by today and read something with a little edge. Pick up a page-turner and read for the fun of it! Here are some suggestions:
Get Bitten (monsters & vampires) – In the Forests of the Night by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Look for Me by Moonlight by Mary Downing Hahn, Twilight by Stephanie Meyer or Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde.
Biting Questions (philosophy & religion) – Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, The Fire-Eaters by David Almond, Just Listen by Sarah Dessen or Buddha Boy by Kathe Koja.
Bite the Bullett (high adventure) – Cold Shoulder Road by Joan Aiken, Red Sea by Diane Tullson, or The Terrorist by Caroline B. Cooney.
Each year, the Smithsonian honors Hispanic Heritage Month. Visit the Hispanic Heritage Month website each September 15 - October 15 for more information. Two notable Hispanic authors are Sandra Cisneros (Caramelo or, Puro Cuento and The House on Mango Street) and Julia Alvarez (In the Time of the Butterflies).
Of course Halloween falls in October. Whether you like vampires, ghosts or witches there is something in the library to scare your socks off. Try Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, Sammy Keyes and the Skeleton Man by Wendelin Van Draanen, Gothic! Ten Original Dark Tales edited by Deborah Noyes, or Blue Moon by Isobel Bird. All of these are AR. |
