We started this rescue in September, 2009.

At first it was just us, the founders, Jennifer and Elena, scrambling to secure connections in California with any other rescue who'd be willing to work with us, to ship the "death row" dogs to Victoria. We both found out through different sources that the kill rates are extremely high in LA shelters and wanted to get involved in any way we could to save as many dogs as we could afford.

We wrote emails to all of the major rescue organizations in the LA area, only 2 responded, but they have been all that we needed to really get going with our passionate endeavour. We are still surprised and amazed at how quickly our connections with other rescues have grown and strengthened! In two months since the inception of BC Poodle & Small Dog Rescue we were already working with several other wonderful, likeminded rescue groups and saving many lives.

Of course, there are the “downs” to all of the “ups” in the rescue world. We had no idea how complicated, stressful and financially straining this rescue effort could sometimes be. But we also feel very blessed to have the opportunity to make such drastic differences in shelter dogs’ lives. So far we’ve managed to overcome all of the difficulties thrown our way, the serious dog health issues as well as monetary deficits. We wouldn’t give this up for the world!
