 STUDENT-CENTERED CLASSROOM

"It is important that students bring a certain ragamuffin, irreverence
to their studies; they are not here to worship what is known, but to
question it."
-J. Bronowski, The Ascent of Man

  • A student-centered classroom puts students first.  The focus is on the student's needs, abilities, interests, and learning styles.  The teacher assumes the role of facilitator instead of leader and the students are active agents, in control of their own learning.

  • The intent of this site is to provide teachers with guidelines and assistance in establishing, managing, and lesson planning in a student-centered classroom.  In addition, the site offers tips for communicating with students and controlling classroom chaos.  Finally, a portaportal, with a variety of applicable links, provides additional resources.
