Challenging the Gifted 2008

Unleashing the Power of Technology for the Gifted:
Making Creative and Critical Thinking Connections

We are living in a digital age that provides gifted students with access to powerful tools that afford new opportunities for creative productivity. At home, many of our students are utilizing technologies in ways that we can barely imagine, but often these tools are not being effectively integrated into the school environment. For digital natives, technology is not a complex add-on but an integral part of their lives. To better understand and meet the needs of our talented youth, we must learn how to look at the world through the eyes of a digital native and effectively utilize technology as a tool to support gifted pedagogy.

Making Sense of Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts

Untangle the confusion of Web 2.0 and transform your classroom into a powerful online learning environment. Build your own Blog! Construct collaborative writing projects with a Wiki! Produce a Podcast! Learn to speak like a digital native. This session will provide an overview of the best, free technology resources available and suggest ways to integrate these tools into your classroom.

Technology Outlets

This session will filter through the fluff and explore some of the best Internet resources for getting your gifted students plugged into high-end learning. Sites providing advanced content as well as tools for creative expression and collaboration will be highlighted.
