June 4, 2010 Chili Supper

Our June 4 chili supper and music program was a real blessing!  About 200 people came.  Some people had driven an hour and a half or more to be there, and there were many people we didn't even know.  The ladies of the church did all the cooking and serving; all we had to do was the music program.  The food was delicious: homemade chili, fresh bread, vegetables, and dessert.  Everything went so smoothly.

Here are just a few of the selections from our music program: "Maple Leaf Rag" (piano), "Poet and Peasant" (piano trio), "Allemande" (oboe), "Carmen" (harp, flute, violin), "Let There be Praise" (vocal), "Prelude Et Ballade" (trumpet) and "Quarks" (harp).

An especially big hit was when Grace started a classical number on the harp and played a phrase that Bill echoed from off stage with his banjo.  Have you ever heard "Dueling Banjos" played with a banjo and harp?  We went from "Dueling Banjos" directly into "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" with Grace on the harp, Bill on the banjo, Laura fiddling, Peter on harmonica, Keith on keyboard, Jesse on drums, Sarah on guitar and Cassie with a tambourine.  It was just plain fun.  As one man put it, we went from Carnegie Hall to Nashville that night.

People were very generous: the donations added 12% to our first year support level.  Pledges added another 5% to our ongoing support.  We are overwhelmed with people's generosity and how God is providing.  God is GOOD!!!!
