About BCA SkillsUSA

In 2000, after two years of teaching at BCA, Chef Mary Beth Brace established the school's first SkillsUSA chapter. She recognized the capabilities of BCA's high achieving students and wanted these student to celebrate their talents in state and national competitions.  What began with just 10 members in its first year, SkillsUSA has rapidly grown to being one of the preeminent clubs at BCA. Every year, BCA students have excelled at both the state and national level. In addition to skills-related aspect of the club, BCA has also proven itself in the leadership aspect. BCA has a tradition of electing state officers, including 4 State Presidents since 2003.

SkillsUSA was founded to create a non-traditional method of learning by transcending the walls of the normal classroom and teaching students how to learn on a practical level in a professional atmosphere. It bridges the gap between school and professional occupations by creating partnerships with leaders in education and industry.

State Gold Medalists Celebrating Their Success

SkillsUSA State and National competitions serve to showcase the leadership and technical abilities of its members. Students have the opportunity to compete for scholarships as well as to network within their chosen fields.

BCA SkillsUSA Members Participating in Community Service Project

A part of the National Program of Work, community service plays a large role in the Bergen County Academies chapter as well. By giving back to their community, students have reported great strides in personal growth and leadership development. Although advisors do play a large role in the projects, they are primarily student run and function on the basis of total participation.
