Speak out for the Arts in BC

The Arts and Culture community in the Province of British Columbia has been devastated by the withdrawal of gaming funds and the slashing of support for the BC Arts Council.  Gaming funds are not from tax revenue, they are a small percentage of the profits of gaming revenue from lotteries and casinos.

Jazz Piano Instructor

The ABRSM Jazz Piano method is similar to the Suzuki method in concept. More information on the ABRSM method and applicant requirements is available on the page following.

JAZZ PIANO INSTRUCTOR Applicants – Additional Information

"The jazz syllabus of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music is for musicians from all backgrounds and is founded on the belief that jazz is for everyone. In developing it, the authors have sought to be true to the free spirit of jazz. Through a structured and progressive framework which encourages disciplined study of the rich variety of jazz tradition, all players will have the opportunity to express themselves and gain the freedom, confidence and understanding to develop their own personal direction in jazz performance."  This means that the students will be required to purchase the books and CDs relevant to their skill level. The Conservatory will not allow photocopies or burned CDs as this is illegal and counter-productive to the publisher being able to develop materials in the future.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate familiarity with these materials in the interview/audition by playing a selection from each of the 5 levels - reading from an original copy of each book.

The successful applicant will include the ABRSM Jazz Piano Aural Tests, Jazz Piano Scales, and Jazz Piano Quick Studies as needed for end of term exams.

 ABRSM Web Site: http://www.abrsm.org/publishing/jazzpiano

The successful candidate will be asked to present a brief review of their teaching activity at the end of each session. The Conservatory will ask the students to evaluate their teachers work by completing a questionnaire developed by the teacher in conjunction with the Conservatory's Artistic Advisory Committee.

Applicants may contact Andrew Homzy for further information and discussion about the ABRSM Jazz Piano program at andrew.homzy@gmail.com.
