The BCA: A watchdog and civic awareness group serving the interests of Beaconsfielders Striving to improve the quality of life and citizen involvement in Beaconsfield
The Beaconsfield Citizens Association (BCA) is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting citizen involvement in the community. It seeks to raise awareness among Beaconsfielders on the issues and decisions that have an impact on their city and their quality of life. It monitors the political and administrative decisions taken by the city’s elected officials and administrative staff, speaks on behalf of its members on crucial issues and provides information to residents that will help them make choices at election time. Members of the association’s executive committee regularly attend city council and other important meetings. Through its website and emails, the BCA keeps residents informed on what transpired during these sessions and what action needs to be taken to ensure that city officials remain responsive to the taxpayer’s needs. Over the years, the BCA has organized “Meet the Candidates” evenings. In 2006, at a critical time in the city’s history, it mobilized the community over the exorbitant property tax increase that followed the demerger. It has continued to publish briefs and open letters concerning taxation, the annual budget and many other issues of interest to Beaconsfielders. The BCA advocates: · Citizen involvement · Quality of life · Responsible municipal government · Financial stability and fiscal responsibility · Transparency in municipal government Its other interests: · The quality of municipal services · Urban planning · Safety, municipal patrol and traffic management · The environment and green spaces Membership To facilitate the participation of all Beaconsfielders, membership is free. However, contributions are accepted to help finance the association’s unique services, website and events.
