In the 1960s I began with photography on the streets of New York City as social commentary (see B & W below). As a young man, my photographs were intended to change the world. Young men have grand ambitions.
I moved to North Carolina in 1994 and in 2003 began working in color digital photography. My first giclee photo on canvas was “Reflections,” shown here.
As an older man in 2003, my focus on what needs to be changed that would not be changed in my lifetime was replaced by my current focus on the beautiful aspects of life, both natural and man made, that need to be preserved. I found myself trying to present a beautiful moment that stirs the viewer’s emotions and makes one glad to be alive.
I do not try to represent a scene so that I can show the viewer what I saw but, rather, how I felt in the hope that the viewer would share the feelings that inspired me.
