Who are we? you ask... allow me to explain our dodgy sounding mob

We are the Baywindow Mafia... a friendly mob of Volkswagen enthusiasts who have an interest in preserving the legendary "baywindow" Kombi/Transporter/Bus, made from 1968-1979.

We are based around the BWM forum and are from all over the world, but our primary member base is in Australia.

The BWM website has facilities for general discussion, technical discussion, buying and selling of bus related goods, free advertising for businesses catering for the VW bus in Australia, and useful technical articals are posted and pinned regularly by staff.

We are intended to be a club as such as well as a web community, meaning we will have organised events and club runs. Members are free to and encouraged to organise runs in their locality via the forum.

BWM is also the home of the Trakkavan Kombi Camper Register, a database being compiled to track the history, whereabouts and ownership of the rare VW-based campervan conversions built by Australian company Trakkavan (now Trakka).

If you restore, drive, rebuild, or just appreciate the Baywindow Kombi, you are welcomed with open arms!

Cheers

The Really Really Big Members

Before you enter,  you ought to be made familiar with these particular Mafioso...

Kieran "Le Schmeaux"...The Godfather

Little is known about this shady character, the ringleader of the Baywindow Mafia...however he is known to get about often under the cover of darkness in the bright yellow 1976 camper seen above, rumoured to be one of the rare Trakka variety... legend has it that this van is affectionately known to the Schmeaux as "Buttercup".

Many hold a begrudged respect for this character due to his ability to unscrupulously swipe Kombi and other VW parts at bargain prices... Thus far, however, nobody has been able to bring a halt to these obviously illigitimate dealings.

Rumour has it that The Schmeaux personally deals with those who neglect their fuel plumbing... and he is known to be terribly disdainful of Holden Commodore drivers, "ricers", and VW drivers who fail to acknowledge a Kombi wave in passing... there are rumours circulating that this man in fact owns a Commodore, however those who speculate over his values are promptly silenced. He is thought also to hold foreign backpackers travelling in Kombi's round Australia in very low esteem.

Reports indicate that this mobster has a taste for beret's, dark glasses and leather.

This character is unpredictable and best avoided.

Daniel "The Fish"... Underboss.

This frightening character is every bit as scary as he looks... never did a more sketchy character exist. This man has been known to trawl Volkswagen shows relieving young children of their tasty sweets and making passes at girls doing promotional work... he has even beeen caught on film luring small children into a SPLITWINDOW bus!!!... despite this, he was pivotal in the formation of the BWM gang, and remains the much respected main man of The Godfather.

By day he is an innocent bartender, however by night he can be found wreaking havoc with bus interiors and exhaust systems. The Fish has in fact been credited with coining the term "phat zorst".

This character is known to get around in a surplus ex-Postmaster General's Office windowless panelvan, which at last sighting was a mixture of faded PMG red and yellow primer. Rumours are circulating however that this 1975-vintage van is being restored to original PMG color scheme, considerably raising suspicion that the BWM may be planning something very big! The windowless nature of the van in itself is enough to raise eyebrows...

This man is dangerous and should not be approached with candy...

Phil "The Monkey"... Underboss.
