2009-2010 Reflections Arts Program

Theme: “Beauty is…” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What it is: The Reflections Program is a National PTA and a Washington State PTA cultural arts Competition that showcases original works of art created by the artist working alone. Purpose: To provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works, created around a specific theme. Theme: This year’s theme is “Beauty is...”. What does this phrase means to you? How would you express this? Who: All Students by the following Divisions: Primary: Grades K-2 ~ Intermediate: Grades 3-5 ~ Middle/Junior : Grades 6-8 How: Students can enter up to two works in each of the following Arts Categories:
Dance Choreography ~ create original choreographed dance and perform it on tape. Film Production ~ fiction or nonfiction video created as animation, a narrative, documentary, experimental, or music video. Literature ~ works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories, and lyrics. Music Composition ~ original musical composition, with or without lyrics. Photography ~ prints up to 11”x14” in color or black and white, including techniques of photogram, retouched, montage, sandwich, and multiple exposures. Visual Arts ~ prints, drawings, painting, collages, photographic collages, metal etching, fiber work and computer generated art. Works of art must be flat and may not exceed more than 3/8” thickness. Artwork may not exceed 24” x 30” including matting.
When: Finished entries will be due to the school no later that 9:00 AM Thursday, January 7, 2010. Each entry must be accompanied by an official entry form which includes the student’s name, grade (or first period) teacher’s name, and parent’s or guardian’s signature.
Come celebrate the art and awards at the Evening of Reflections at 6:30 PM Tuesday, January 12th, 2010.
Interested?: General Participation Rules and Entry Forms are sent home upon request or can be downloaded from our Bay View PTA website. Be sure you have read the rules and comply with them, so that your entry is not disqualified. Eight qualifying entries will be forwarded to move onto the State and possibly National PTA Reflections.
