Informational Task 1 : What is Hazing? Write a paragraph about hazing. How long has it been around? How did it get started? Be sure to define the term and give examples of hazing and when it is used. It is important to be specific in your response. The following sites may help you research the topic and write your paragraph: Informational Task 2: Hazing vs. Bullying Use the links below to research the differences and similarities between hazing and bullying. Make a graphic organizer (such as a Venn Diagram or T-Chart) showing what you learned. You must have at least 5 unique points about hazing and 5 unique points about bullying on your graphic organizer. You must have at least 3 common points between the two. A sample Venn Diagram is shown at the right. Informational Task 3: Laws against hazing and example legal cases For this task you must create a 5-slide powerpoint presentation about hazing. The first slide is your introduction page (name, title, class period, etc). The second slide should summarize the national law(s) against hazing and the Florida law(s) against hazing. The third, fourth and fifth slides should highlight specific court cases where the defendant was a victim of hazing. Showcase one court case per slide, for a total of three cases. You should do a summary of the court case and include the verdict. Informational Task 4: Movies and Books that Deal with Hazing Search for the titles of 5 books or movies that use hazing as the major plot line of the story. Prepare a brochure in which you describe each of the movies or books in a short summary. Also include year of publication & author name (for books) or year of release and director name (for movies). The brochure's audience is a middle school class that is looking for more information on the topic of bullying and hazing. Keep this in mind as you design and write your brochure. image courtesy of wikipedia.org Informational Task 5: School Policy on Bullying Consult the student code of conduct for the school's policy on bullying. Depending on what you find, add or delete information to make the policy as specific and as air-tight as possible. What do you think should be included in the policy? What should be the punishment for a student who is in violation of the policy? Be specific. In addition, write a paragraph explaining whether the school does a good job or a bad job of preventing bullying right now. Use examples to make your points strong. |
