How to practice

Thank you for your support in encouraging practice at home in the evenings and on weekends!  I recommend that the student practice in 15-30 minute intervals per day.  A minimum goal would be to practice at least 3 days per week.  Students must return their instruments and books to the music room by 9am the next school day.

1. Choose a room that is quiet and free of distractions…no TV or radio.

2. Be sure to use proper seating and playing position.

3. Practice for results, not just to “put in time.” Realize that there are some things you can fix in one practice session while other things may have to develop over time.  Practice the notes or parts of songs that you have difficulty with SLOWLY then speed it up.

4. At the end of your practice session, play something fun.

5. Play for your parents. Let them see and hear what you are doing in class.

Why practice

posted Nov 26, 2009 12:16 PM by Megan Fransoo   [ updated Nov 26, 2009 1:10 PM ]

Practicing is SOOO important for you to learn and grow as a musician!  You must practice in order to reinforce concepts covered in class and to develop the necessary skills on your instrument to become a top-notch musician.  It is also absolutely necessary for you to practice so that our Band gets better and we can make music that is beautiful to listen to.  You will then be proud to play in a band that makes great music.  In order for this great band to exist, you need to bring your skills to Band class so that you contribute to the awesome sound coming from the group.  Practicing not only helps YOU in Band class, but it helps the WHOLE class!
