What I like about 'Battle at the Gate' is the way it changes from fast and furious to quiet and gentle, yet with gripping tension throughout.  It keeps the kids on the edge of their seats.  

I love reading it to a class for the first time.  When I'm finished the kids ask me heaps of questions. They bond to me through the story.  

Adults enjoy it as much as kids do.  It changes their view of history a little, in a very positive way.  

I'd love it to help towards racial harmony in New Zealand.  That's one of my dreams.
