Personal Relic 23: Chelsea's Marble
Personal Relic 23: Chelsea's Marble
See album description - There is a river not too far from San Antonio called the Guadalupe River. There is a spot in the river called “The Horse shoe”, where people enter the river at one end and float a mile downstream through rapids, slow currents, and beautiful trees. Once they come to the other end of the “Horse shoe” they get out and walk back to the entrance to do it all over again. It’s a good time and a source of great income for tourist businesses. That being said, to a four year old it can be scary when you see the rapids. When my daughter was four I took her to the river. Most people float the river in an inner-tube but I took a 2-man inflatable boat for her and me. On the way to the entrance (before she could see what she was getting herself into), my daughter found this marble and didn’t want to let it go. A marble to a four year old is apparently like a diamond. Needless to say, when she saw the river she was scared and didn’t want to go in. I sat her down and showed her the logic that everyone was going in and everyone was coming out. I told her I would never let anything happen to her and I would never put her in a place where she would be in danger. She looked at me with these big brown eyes and said “Then Daddy, you hold this… cause I’ll be holding onto you.” Talk about pressure! We made it through the horse show and she wanted to go again. The second time turned into the third time. At the end she was exhausted and I ended up carrying her on my shoulders back to the car. When I got her in the car seat she woke up and looked at me. I held out the marble and said “Here you go.” I thought she would grab it and hold onto it all the way home, but she said “No daddy that’s for you… that’s for taking care of me!”

Ford Reflex concept car
The Ford Reflex (or REFL3X, as spelled on the vehicle nameplate) is a concept car introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show that, according to Ford, "proves small cars can be bold and American". It is a technological showcase that includes solar panel-powered headlights, integrated child seat, baby cam with a monitor mounted on the dash, inflatable rear safety belts, and an interior quieted by ground rubber taken from Nike athletic shoe outsoles. A production version of the Reflex design has not yet been announced. It features an advanced diesel-electric hybrid engine with new-generation lithium ion batteries that help deliver up to 65 miles per US gallon (3.6 L/100 km; 78 mpg-imp) of diesel fuel, and can accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 7 seconds.
