The FactsThe Young Leaders' Scheme helps Explorer Scouts to develop and grow as individuals. It allows them to make a valuable contribution to their community and give service to others. The scheme also helps them fulfil the service elements of their awards.To Be a Young Leader (YL) you must: Be registered with the District Young Leader Unit (DYLU), (POR Rule 4.37d) Pay Capitation (subs) to either the DYLU or your own Explorer Scout Unit. The young person must be aged between 14 - 18 years old. You have to been away from your old Scout Unit for at least 6 months before returning to that Scout section. You may be an YL at another group or section provided that you meet the min age requirements. Training The YL training is broken down into 11 modules A – K which are satisfied by attendance (no exams) at training days and also 4 Missions which are much more involved and show how you have taken control and organized activities and events. The Young Leader's Module A Badge is awarded after completion of Module A - Prepare for Take Off of the Young Leaders' Scheme. This must be completed within three months of becoming a Young Leader.
