Fairway Woods

Fairway woods are the clubs you typically use after your tee shot on the fairway. You usally get a 3 wood and a 5 wood in your typical set of golf clubs. Although hybrid clubs are becoming more and more popular the fairway wood is still the club of choice for many golfers.

Fairway woods are easier to control than your long irons due to the greater loft you get with these clubs. There are many golfers who use a fairway wood off the tee instead of their driver because of the greater control you have with these clubs.

Let's discuss the different types of fairway woods there are.

The 3 wood: The 3 wood is a great club to use off the tee for more control on your tee shot. What you lose in distance you gain in accuracy. This is especially true when you have a fairway that is not wide with a lot of obstacles on both sides. A 3 wood is also a great club to use in the fairway when you are a great distance from the green.

The 4 and 5 woods: These woods are great for hitting out of light rough when you need distance. These woods also are easier to control than your longer irons. One of my favorite clubs is the 4 wood, I can hit it straight and controlled with great distance.

Find a sporting goods store that you can try hitting balls with  different clubs. Most of these stores have a net set up where you can hit balls. Try different types of fairway woods on a tee and right off the mat. Find the ones that you are most comfortable using and are within your price range. Once you have your woods you will be glad you made the choice to have these clubs as part of your golf club set.
