Over a decade of quizzing we've got through a fair few markers. Each and every one was amazing. Who do you remember?
Ed | Dec 2003 - Jan 2007 Ed was over qualified to work on Bar Wars, why? Well he was a regular at the FCH Bar Wars in Cheltenham for 2 years. In 2004 Ed has took on the role as co-writer and co-host. Ed’s favourite moment of Bar Wars? Probably finally winning the quiz himself after trying for over a year at the weekly Cheltenham FCH version of the quiz. Angela | Christmas 2006 - 2008 Angela was Ed's initial replacement and one of our fastest markers ever. She was passionate about the colour pink but scared of sharks. There's evidence that she only got the marking job after dressing up as Kylie Minogue for Halloween. Angela left the quiz to pursue a career in nursing...do they do pink uniforms?Kelly | 2008 - present Kelly | 2008 - Spring 2011 Our marvellous marker Kelly P was the real engine behind the Wars. All Leon does is stand there and waffle on for an hour. Poor Kelly had to wade through all the answer sheets and separate right from wrong - no easy task on busy night! Not only that but she had diplomatic skills that are the envy of a UN envoy having to double check marking on those occasions you doubt our prowess. Kelly loves live music and is hairstylist to many of the TGS staff. Kate: Jan 28th 2007 - Spring 2007 After joining Bar Wars on Fight Night 2007 we were worried that Kate wouldn’t want anything more to do with us. Not to worry Kate returned the following week with a crash helmet and body armour ready for more. Like Sammy Kate was an expert in Beauty Therapy… though her knowledge didn't do anything to help Leon’s appearance. Sammy: 2006-2007 Sammy B was our initial replacement for Ed. Sammy is a beauty therapist - a shame then that she never sorted out Leon's looks. Neil: September 04-Summer 06 You knew when Neil had written a round - they were rock hard! We have a suspicion that Neil only agreed to help out at the quiz so he could get his hands on the much sought after official Bar Wars T Shirt. Mark: Feb 04 - September 04 During his six months with the quiz Mark contributed some of the best picture rounds ever (She-male or Female?!) Mark also regularly wrote 54321. Mark also had a worrying knowledge of tantric sex! Mark was a budding thespian and performed on stage many times including Mad Dogs Theatre Company’s fantastic renditions of Life Of Brian and and Evening With Gary Linker. Will: Oct 01 - March 02 Took on the marking duties during the final Cheltenham season. Also co wrote some editions of the quiz and reveled in the fact that he was at the Twin Towers on September 11th 2001 leading to a tense vital statistics in November 01 where you had to guess how many metres he was away from the devastation… Will was a big fan of Lord of The Rings and PC strategy gaming. He is still alive and well living in Ascot and currently works for the Met Fuzz! Lee ‘Les’ Chadwick - Feb 2000 - Sept -01 Co-created the quiz with Leon way back in late 1999 early 2000. Served as main host for a few months in the early days when Leon had to back out due to ill health. Helped shaped the quiz into the format you see today with its lively mix of good music and great trivia. Lee was a passionate fan of Friends and cheesy boy band music as well as a keen sports fan even managing his own youth football team. Lee’s main influence in the presenting of Bar Wars was a popular ex-radio 1 duo. To some Lee & Leon may have become the SU’s own ‘Ant & Dec’ but personally they always viewed themselves as the Mark & Lard of the Ents team. Lee took on the role of FCH Ents exec between 2000-2001 Lee is now living in Chester and even sent a message of good luck when he heard of Bar Wars’ return in 2004. |
