  • 1980 to present: Presenter at numerous technology/education workshops (NCCE, NCTM, NSBA, ISTE, and many schools in and out of state).

  • 1984 to 2002: Supervised student teachers (secondary level) from Western Oregon and Willamette Universities

  • 1988Oregon K-12 Educator of the Year. Award included a 1-year sabbatical to design & implement a program integrating technology across existing curriculums and share strategies with other school districts.

  • 2001-2003 – Selected as Intel Teach to the Future Master teacher (a program designed to empower educators to integrate technology into education).

  • 2003 NCCE Technology Educator of the Year.

  • 2004 – Selected as national team leader for the HP Technology for Teaching initiative (overseen by ISTE). Worked with school Districts (mainly Oregon and Texas) implementing the NETS (national technology standards for administrators, teachers and students).

  • 2006 Casio Technology Educator of the Year (designed hybrid F2F/online course for 5th grade mathematically talented and gifted, including integrating the Casio virtual graphics calculator).

  • 2007-8 – Keynote speaker for an eLearning Conference and Opening Day of School

  • 2000-2006: Assisted in the design and implementation of SK-Online (one of Oregon’s largest high school distance education providers)

    • Designed and supervised the creation of over 25 online courses (in all curriculum areas).

    • Taught 4 different courses.

    • Assisted in creating and implementing staff development workshops and ongoing support systems.

    • Provided tech support for the Ucompass/Educator management system (similar to BlackBoard).

    • 2004-6 Built and maintained the SK Online fileserver and Tegrity Video Recording system.

  • 2006-2007: OSU K12 Online: Course development (12 courses), Workshops, Staff Development

  • 2008-present: George Fox University, teaching Ed 556 (Pedagogy- Technology focus)

Noteworthy Projects:

  • 2008: ODE review committee for new Oregon Educations Technology Standards. Draft will go to state Legislature in December for final approval.

  • 2008-9: Designed curriculum for Ed-556 Educational Pedagogy (Technology strand) for George Fox University student teachers. Currently teaching the course.

  • 2007-present: Researching Web2.0 tools and how to integrate them into F2F and eLearning environments. I was a Lead Developer and Reviewer for creating online courses that utilize these tools. I’m also doing presentations and workshops at conferences and school districts around the state, including presentation for Willamette University’s and George Foxes MAT students.

    • My barryjahn.com web site is evolving into a valuable resource and providing the backbone of my vision. Included are links for several workshops and individual Web2.0 tools I use as demonstrations.

  • 2006-2007: Worked with OSU K12 Online (Director: Tryna Luton ) to integrate new Blackboard features and Web2.0 toolsets into online instruction. Project manager responsible for developing 12 online courses. Several titles include Multi Media Communications, Economics, German, Software Applications and Web Design.

    • Member of OSU K12 Online Advisory Committee. Submitted document for final approval for state accreditation.

  • 2006 NCCE: Presentation titled ‘Desiging Online Courses”. Demonstrated sample courses, theories of learning and best practices applied to content design and delivery, building community, and evaluation.
    Demonstrations included:

    • Great web-sites lesson; Layout/Design for web projects; and 3 courses (soph. Literature, forensic science, and remedial reading).

  • 2005-present: Assisted in developing and implementing MSI (Math Scene Investigation), a unique hybrid F2F-online program for elementary school mathematically talented and gifted. Our product is currently seeking copyright approval by the Salem-Keizer School District for national marketing.

  • 2005: Team member: proposal for eLearning Distance Education Framework: RFP# ED5810154

  • 2005-present: Advisory Board Member for YackPack Education Team (Web2.0 audio communication software). My demonstration of Yackpack.

  • 2004-2006: Development project with the Education Division of Casio (in Portland and New Jersey) to create a web-based course for their newly released ClassPad Virtual Graphics Calculator. The course is taught nationwide to math educators and students.

  • 2004: NETC Online Teachers at Work Symposium in Seattle – Team Leader for organizing distance education instructors and developers from around the NW. Collected and analyzed data (best practices) in the following categories:

    • curriculum development strategies

    • instructional delivery practices

    • learning environments

    • effective teaching practices in the various curriculum areas

    • student outcomes

    • administrative issues

    • After the Symposium our team (NWREL) spent many months compiling and organizing the best practices and posted the results on their website (See Digital Bridges Project above).

  • 2004: Digital Bridges Project with NWREL and NETC. Assisted in the content development and review process. Our team of six involved technology leaders from Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

  • 2003-4: Odyssey Charter School (hybrid F2F/online charter school in Las Vegas, Nevada) workshops. Also actively involved in the development of several other charter schools that had an online component.

  • 2002-2005: Oregon Online Leaders (OOL). This organization included the majority of the innovative online leaders from around the state. We worked with different representatives from the State Dept of Education and played an active role in helping the department begin to define their role in distance education.

  • 2000-2005: SK Online (virtual school within a school District). Worked under the leadership of MaryJean Sandall. Responsibilities included:

    • Selecting and implementing a Course Management system (Ucompass, similar to BlackBoard)

    • Creating and managing the development of dozens of courses in all curriculum areas, including:

      • math, science, English, social studies, music, art, software applications, computer programming, Spanish, German, business, health (in both English and Spanish), remedial reading and PE.

    • Providing ongoing staff development for all aspects of teaching in an online environment.

  • 2004: National team leader for the Microsoft-HP Mentoring Program. Primary responsibilities included working with teams of administrators and teachers from Oregon and Texas.

  • 2001-3: Master teacher for the Intel Teach to the Future project to empower educators to integrate technology into education.

  • 2001-2005: Developed many useful Online Resources for Communication, Support and Course Development. Currently posted on a website for unlimited access to all educators.

  • 2001: High School Technology Literacy Graduation Standards project under the direction of Dr. Edward Wright, Western Oregon University. Dr. Wright invited me to design and submit this project as part of his TIPS technology grant.

  • 2000: SuperQuest Workshop presenter to secondary instructors at Western Oregon University.

  • 1988-89: US West Oregon Teacher of the Year with 1-year sabbatical. Researched and implemented several projects integrating technology across the curriculum.

  • 1985-2002: Developed, implemented and constantly updated the technology plan for Sprague High School including one of the states leading student-based tech-support programs.

  • 1985: Assisted Salem/Keizer School District formulate their initial District Technology Plan. This project took nearly six months to complete and involved input from administrators and instructors district-wide.

  • 1978: Founded A to Z Technology Solutions. Company goals are to offer a variety of technology support services including needs and assessment consultation, software application training, networking/Internet services, and web/blog design. Over 25 years of quality service to Willamette Valley clients.
