About Wado Ryu Karate
Wado Ryu is one of the major systems of Japanese Karate. The essence of wado is to avoid incoming attacks by using body movements, footwork and deflecting movements. Much of the thought behind the style originates with the Japanese martial arts of sword fighting (Ken Jitsu) and unarmed combat (Ju Jitsu).

The light, fast movements of wado lend itself well to competition fighting (sport karate).

It can be said (in very general terms!) that Wado Ryu is a blending of Okinawan Karate and the traditional Japanese martial arts.

About Shoshin
From Wikipedia

Shoshin (初心)is a term from Zen Buddhism meaning "beginner's mind". It refers to having an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of preconceptions when studying a subject, even when studying at an advanced level, just as a beginner in that subject would.

"In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's mind there are few." -- Shunryu Suzuki
