What is Pony Club?

Pony Club is one of the leading junior equestrian organizations in the world, represented in over 30 countries! The US has over 600 individual clubs spread throughout the 50 states and the Virgin Islands with more than 12,000 members!
PC provides opportunities for instruction in england riding, horsemanagement and horse sports for children and young adults ages 5-21. It is not necessary to own a horse/pony to participate but they must have access to one when required for mounted activities. Programs offerred include: show jumping, dressage, eventing, games, tetrathlon, quiz, vaulting, foxhunting and polocrosse.
During unmounted meetings, members learn about feeding, shoeing, veterinary care, and other areas of horsemanagement. Under adult supervision, the more experienced PC members instruct and assist younger members.
PC members are encouraged to work their way through the 9 stages of progressive Standards of Proficiency, which test knowledge and riding ability. PC members who attain the B, H-A, and A rating levels meet standards of competence taht are recognized throughout the horse world.
Barnstable Pony Club
Barnstable Pony Club is a well established branch of the US Pony Club's Southeastern New England region, serving members from all of Cape Cod and the surrounding region in Massachusetts.
Membership
PC members join as "unrated" members and advance through various levels of ratings from D1 through D-3, C-1 through C-3, B, H-A, and A. D1 through C-2 ratings are done locally. C-3 is a regional rating and the higher levels are tested nationally. The ratings cover horsemanagement, knowledge, proficiency in all phases of riding and horse care.
Membership is open to all riders ages 5-21. Age is determined as of Jan 1st of the calendar year.
Riders should be able to walk and trot independently to participate in mounted meetings. Dues are charged annually and cover the cost of most meetings. Occaisonally a small fee is charged for special clinics and functions, but active fundraising helps the club defer most costs for members!
Parent's Role
Parents are a vital part of PC and are encouraged to participate in all club activities! There are many areas in which parents are needed. They may share one of many roles such as chaperone, assisting in running activities, fundraising, hosting meetings, and so on - just let us know your talents and interests and we'll find a role just for you!
Safety
USPC is committed to safety. It is a membership requirement that PC members were a ASTM/SEI standard approved riding helmet when attending mounted meetings. Parents should be prepared to purchase this item and the minimum basic riding equipment, such as jodphurs, boots, etc. FIND US ON FACEBOOK - BARNSTABLE PONY CLUB FOR REALLY CURRENT UPDATES AND PHOTOS!
