On exhibit at the Bill Lowe Gallery in Atlanta, December 4 2009 to January 30 2010. Just as Joe Rossano's barcoded butterfly boxes hold an inner dimension of DNA barcode sequences, the data presented here hold an extra dimension of natural history. The natural history is drawn from the long-lasting caterpillar inventory of the Area de Conservacion Guanacaste (ACG) in Costa Rica, and is the source of the original photographs and experiences that inspired Joe. This site is not composed of polished html pages but rather direct access to all rearing records of the species in the butterfly boxes. The data is presented in Fusion Tables, a new and free product of Google Labs, which allows users to manipulate, search, and create visualizations of the data as in the examples in the following pages. The data is drawn from the evolving working database of the caterpillar inventory and presented in a young and quickly evolving software, so there will be occasional errors and glitches. But such is scientific research into the immense richness of tropical biodiversity The full Fusion Table for all butterfly and moth specimens of the species in this exhibition is here. This site is a complement to a series of exhibition related pages at the Ontario Genomics Institute. |
