5. Adelpha basiloides (family Nymphalidae) Adelpha basiloides was considered distinctive and easy to identify among the many similar-looking Adelpha species in the tropics. But there are two apparently visually identical entities with quite different DNA barcodes among the reared ACG butterflies that have been identified as Adelpha basiloides. These have been given the unofficial interim names of Adelpha basiloidesDHJ01 and Adelpha basiloidesDHJ02. Unlike most other cases of marked barcode splits, these two species overlap in geographical distribution and food plants as well as in appearance. The specimens that have not been barcoded are still called Adelpha basiloides because there is as yet no other way to identify them further. A Fusion Table with all Adelpha basiloides rearing records is here. This page is a complement to http://www.ontariogenomics.ca/outreach/BOLD5 |
