Davis, J. Moulder, M. Nash, G. Murfitt, D.Wood, M. Peacocke and J.Heppel [crouching] A very happy group of men. and the winners are.............................. Joan Cooper & Jim Heppel.
Sunday 22nd May 2011 was not the best day for weather but a great day for Jim & Joan who walked off as clear winners of the Don Wood Trophy. In a 4 round competition contested by 12 pairs Jim and Joan battled the opposition and the strong wind to win every round. Although there are no runners up medals, a mention must be made for Ralph Cooper and Gary Mitchell who came second, just a point behind. |

Woodford Wells Annual Short Mat Bowls Open Triples Championship Congratulations to our Short Mat Bowls Team who were the winners of the Woodford
Wells Annual Short Mat Bowls Open Triples Championship which took place
on 7th April. For the first time since the event was inaugurated 13
years ago our short mat bowls section was invited to send a team.
The
team comprised Alan Dodd (skip), Bill Davis and Martin Peacock, all of
whom joined Bantham & Ongar last year and none of whom had
previously played in an external tournament. The event involves
16 teams separated into four groups with each team playing six matches
against teams drawn from each of the other three groups (two teams from
each group). Points are awarded, 2 points for a win and 1 point for a
draw. At the end of the day the results are collated into a sigle
league with shot difference separating those teams with equal points.
The
overall standard of bowling was high and Bantham & Ongar had to
defeat both the 2009 and 2010 tournament winners during the round robin
matches. Three teams finished with 10 points with Bantham & Ongar the outright winners on shot difference. Well Done!!
OPEN DAY The 2011 outdoor season is
now well under way and the Club held an Open Day on Saturday 14th May.
Despite the weather which was rather cloudy and chilly the day was a
great success. Over 30 people came along to try out the game.
Refreshment were available to warm them up after they had spent some
time on the green. Indoor short mat bowling was also available to
try. All in all a very successful day. Thanks to all those who came
along and to Club members who helped out on the day. Remember Club
night is every Thursday from 6.15pm – come along and have a go.
LADIES - V - GENTS This
most important fixture played at the beginning of each season was won
this year by the ladies, for the second year in a row. The game was
played on a warm Saturday afternoon and was enjoyed very much by all
those who took part. Well done ladies, bad luck gents, better luck
next year! The Winning Ladies Team 2011

At Bantham & Ongar Bowls Club, the first game of the 2010 season,
Ladies v Gents, took place on Saturday 24th April in beautiful sunny
and warm conditions. Ladies' captain was Doreen Oddy and gentlemen's
captain George Finbow. Last year this annual event was won by the
gentlemen for the first time in six years so this year the ladies were
keen to win back the trophy. What an exciting game it was, half way
through it was still anyone's game but in the end the ladies beat the
gentlemen 101 shots to 90 to take back the trophy. Well done ladies!
