The following experiments are designed for use with sensors. Each of them may require assistance which I am happy to supply. The purpose of each activity is to engage students in scientific inquiry. Inquiry is the precursor to developing research topics and projects that students independently perform. Through this process students develop the skills necessary to design experiments, formulate hypotheses and analyze data. This has been the starting point for many projects that can be seen on the Independent Research, and Stockholm Junior Water Prize pages. The sensors required for these activities are all Vernier sensors. Pasco sensors will also work. The use of a Lab Quest is essential. Ultimately it is the goal of all science rooms to be equipped with sufficient Lab Quest's and a variety of sensors to accomodate a class of 20 students working in pairs. The following sensors are required to perform the experiments shown below. pH, conductivity, stainless steel temperature, balance, and colorimeter. |
