- A placemat is a protective table pad usually made of paper, plastic or cloth for restaurants and households. Asian-style placemats may feature thin slats of bamboo or colourful beads. The term is derived from the mat being put at a person's "place" (chair) at a table.

Retro placemats
I bought these retro placemats (these are the coasters) from TK Maxx a couple of years ago when I moved into my first place. I wanted to see what they'd look like with a retro filter with my Android mytubo app. This is the artistic filter. Quite like what it's done. Vintage Placemat
Vintage Christmas placemat, probably linen. Could be made by the Finnish company Tampella. Size is about 20 x 20 cm. Found three of these in a thrift store.
