The Double Down has finally landed in Taiwan. Sort of. Instead of Original Recipe, this uses Extra Crispy [1] thigh meat. Instead of two types of cheese (Monterey Jack and pepper jack), this has only one slice of bland American cheese. Plus they put in lettuce and tomato.[2] And I wonder if the cheese sauce used is the same as the "Colonel's Sauce" used in the American version of this beast. I still haven't had the original Double Down so I don't know how that is, but this one was disappointing. The lettuce and American cheese did not go well with the savoriness of the fried chicken. The whole was definitely less than the sum of its parts. [1] Extra Crispy is significantly more popular than Original Recipe here in Taiwan. [2] The tomato and bacon are unfortunately hidden from view in this photo.
