Welcome

This page is for enrolled students and families of
Baile Glas Irish Dancers

Our beautiful step dancing tradition is supported by great classes, and dedicated practices.

Classes
Current classes are for children ages 5 1/2 through teenagers. An adult class section isn't being offered due to scheduling, and space limitations.

Dancers should arrive on-time, and ready to dance. T shirts, leggings, or shorts are best for class, (no baggy sweat pants, or warm-ups). Dancers should wear white socks with dance shoes, and please bring along a water (only) bottle. No additional food inside the studio please.
Generally, the classes for beginners are 45 mins.-- one hour max.
Another 15-min. is added to the intermediate level class, and the advanced dancers have 90 min classes.

Class lessons must be supported by at-home practice. Each class has specific directions, and expectations for the dancers at each level. If you want to learn at a faster pace, compete at a feis, or be featured in performance, your goals will require an increased commitment to practicing at home.

TUITION for all class locations is $200 per dancer, per trimester, due on the first day of class.
Trimesters begin in September, January, and mid April. (Tuition paid is for the trimester, there are No refunds).

ENROLLMENT FORMS are available in-class, please update email and contact information on the first day of each trimester.

Enrollment in two classes is encouraged for competitive dancers at or beyond "novice." The standard in our area is quite high, and a "once a week" effort isn't going to be enough to keep you competitive--again beyond "novice". As you go up the competition ladder, additional time for practice will be expected, but it's each dancer's choice to enter the feis, and to prepare as best they can. Please inquire in-class; the second class throughout the trimester adds $150 tuition. PRIVATE LESSONS also available to higher level dancers as needed in preparation for feiseanna.

NOTES:
For dancers who perform for Baile Glas Irish Dancers:
Congratulations to all our new and returning dancers who performed in our many Great Performances this year. St Patrick's Day (Friday/Saturday) was a fun and exciting time! Thanks again dancers, and families,  Keep-up the steps, and the smiles!

Next up:
CHILDREN'S FRIENDSHIP FESTIVAL at MOHAI, in Seattle (Sunday April 22nd) details TBA
N.W. FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL at Seattle Center in Seattle (Monday, May 28th at 1:30 p.m.)

Requests for year-round performances are discussed in class, and via e-mail.
As director, I choose dancers at all levels who perform with great, traditional step dancing technique, and who also look happy and comfortable on-stage.  Show pieces are taught to the group in-class, then as needed, I use a bit of class time to REHEARSE show pieces among those selected.
I don't take time to re-teach the dances-- show pieces should be practiced at home so performers are ready on short notice.

For dancers who compete for Baile Glas Irish Dancers:
FEIS DATES for all of North America including British Columbia Canada are listed at the NAFC (North Amer. Feis Comm.) website. Feiseanna are run by volunteers, so please have patience, and wait until the syllabus is published before you start asking questions. The schedule/timetable details often aren't available until the entries are received. Please keep your feis days open so you can focus just on dancing that day.

Also when you go to feisworx.com, click on "Feis info." and please SELECT, and READ the SYLLABUS. It tells you what competitions are offered, as well as the addresses, hotel info, and overall schedule. Any Special competition requirements, (singing, music, art etc.), and different kinds of trophy/special dances (reels/ jigs) are explained in each syllabus
Next up:
OUR own Emerald City Feis is April 28 and 29 weekend, 2012!
As co-sponsors of this local event, we'll need your support mainly through volunteering to work at "day-of" feis jobs, and advertising sales for the program book.

In May, The Victoria Feis, and Penk O'Donnell feis are in British Columbia Canada. Visit their websites for more info.

In June, the Oregon St. Champs feis in Portland, is the first weekend, June 2/3, and the Stewart School's "Beautiful British Columbia Feis" is Father's Day weekend, June 16th. Again search for websites to find more details.

July 21/22 weekend is the Dance for Life, Sea-Tac Marriott. This is our last local competitive event before a break from classes.

DANCERS and FAMILIES Please bring your "too small" jumpers and dresses to class so that we can find the right size for your dancer's next performances. Also, please RETURN all out-grown shoes, or other costume-items that were borrowed from BGID.
