Understanding genetic, molecular and cellular mechanisms towards the treatments for brain diseases

Our lab is interested in understanding the mechanisms involved in human brain diseases. We have developed a new research direction utilizing in vitro and in vivo approaches to model various neurodevelopmental disorders caused by genetic mutations. We are now exploring the mechanisms of diseases further highlights pathogenic mechanisms of pharmacoresistant seizure to identify new avenues for targeted therapeutic intervention. Currently, we are working towards establishing a new avenue in functional hypothesis testing approaches to: a) study the cellular mechanisms of intractable seizure caused by structural brain defects and to develop models for testing targeted manipulation of pathologic cells; b) identify molecular pathways causing neuronal hyperactivity and explore targetable nodes with the long-term goal of developing effective strategies for the treatment.
