Reverse

A 'reverse,' also called a 'slingshot,' can be a devastating blow to an opponent.  It consists of turning your car to face the opposite direction just after a sharp turn.  The object is approach the corner from the wrong direction as the enemy approaches it from the normal direction.  You want to slam into him head on as he rounds the corner, before he has time to react.  Then try to use your momentum to get you going back in the right direction while the enemy is recovering.

While reverses can be devastating, they are also quite risky.  Many players will anticipate the reverse and dodge it.  Performing the reverse effectively requires practice, and a good time to practice setting up planned-out reverse moves is actually while being the rogue.  A more conservative method of slowing your opponent is stalling.
Tips:

  • As the reverse is a risky maneuver, it is a good idea to avoid attempting it on the enemy that is farthest back, as failure means that you now require rescuing.
  • This move can be effective on a corner, but to hit someone head-on on a straightaway requires a lot more luck.
  • It is better to try this move when the oncoming enemy is not accompanied by one of your teammates.  Accidently hitting (or being hit by) your own teammate on a reverse is not a pleasant experience!
