Some random input: The deceiving finish: You may have noticed that sometimes when you have only barely crossed the checkered finish line, the game does not recognize that you have finished. The solution is easy: drive forward a little bit more - there! The visible checkered finish line is several feet in front of the 'technical' finish line. This is a consistent discrepancy, so anticipate it. Don't stop just short! Likewise, when you are playing in reverse direction, the 'technical' finish line will be in front of the visible finish line, as you are approaching from the opposite direction. Change of scenery: Badlove is most often played on High Speed Loop - and less often on City Short Circuit - because they are the tracks that are built-in to the game and that demo drivers can also use. However, there are other plug-in tracks available for download from www.legacyoflies.com on which some mean Badlove games can be played. (I recommend using the Redline Plug-ins Automatic Updater, also found on that site). Bardagi Road is a very fun Badlove track, and I have also had fun on both Rudskogen Motorpark and Lime Rock Park. And don't forget redneck Badlove, played with El Camino 4x4s on Country Dirt Road. These tracks are not employed regularly because it is rare that everyone in a given room will have the plug-ins. So... what are you waiting for? Go get them (and tons more plug-ins too)! Host god-mode: Ever encountered a Badlove player who you just couldn't faze, no matter how hard you hit him and from what angle? Someone who pushes you with ease no matter how hard you mash down your space bar? Next time this is happening to you, ask yourself if that player is the one hosting the game. Many players have noticed that the host of the game often interacts strangely with the other players. His car might appear to be super heavy, and whenever you go near him you would probably get stuck to him and be forced to go where he puts you. Host god-mode is a fact of life, and you should adapt. I, personally, usually try to avoid the host if it's possible, just to be on the safe side. Be aware, though, that sometimes you can use his stickiness against him if you have to stall someone... Saving replays: Did you even know you could save a replay? It's easy. After a game, if the host only pushes <esc> once, you will be in Replay mode, during which you can view the replay of the race you just completed. When you are in Replay mode, any player can save the replay by pushing <cmd> + <option> + <s>. You will hear your computer's alert signal to confirm that you saved it. After you have saved it, restart Redline, and at the Main Menu push <R>. You will see a list of replays you can watch. Search the list for the date and time that you saved, and that should be the name of the saved file. Once you have selected it and are watching it, you can press <V> to change which player's perspective you see, and press <C> to change the camera view. You can also press <command> to see behind you, just like during a race. A good way to learn strategy is to watch how more experienced players play on saved replays. |
