Congregational Shabbaton Experiences
For 25 hours, on May 8 - 9, 2009, our bayit (house) was in full swing with services, activities and, yes, food for a congregational celebration of a full Shabbat as we travelled together "On the Road to Sinai".
We celebrated the Omer and beginning of spring. As we moved from Passover to Shavuot, from celebrating liberation to receiving Torah, we recognized that an integral part of this journey through the desert was building community and creating a framework for sustainable living. We explored these themes of community, Torah, environment, and leadership at this year’s Shabbaton. The entire community was welcome to this intergenerational, vibrant celebration of Shabbat. After the Shabbaton, an online survey was conducted. Attendees were asked to "share with us something that you are taking home with you from the Shabbaton - a teaching, friendship, idea, project, etc." The following are some of the responses:
