"There's No Place Like Home: Celebrating and Considering Israel"

Friday evening, November 6, 2009, Saturday morning, January 9, 2010 and Saturday afternoon, April 3, 2010.

For the past two years we have hosted a full, varied and well-attended 25-hour community Shabbaton, each filled with celebration, learning, and community-building.

This year, we are expanding to THREE mini-Shabbatons, using similar approaches but scheduling them during a different portion of Shabbat throughout the year.

Our theme this year is "There's No Place Like Home."  The dates are:  November 6, 2009, January 9, 2010 and April 3, 2010.

On Friday evening, November 6, we celebrated our relationship with Israel, our Jewish homeland.  After 6 pm Kabbalat Shabbat services we enjoyed a potluck Israeli style dinner.  Next, adults and children laughed their way through a short film, "West Bank Story", an Oscar-winning parody of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Next, adults participated in a guided discussion on ways to promote dialogue within the congregation and Jewish community when members hold differing opinions on Israeli policies.  At the same time, children of all ages gathered in the Kollel for a hilarious and competitive game that combined Twister, charades and Hebrew spelling!  They also played a great game of Pictionary!

Our evening ended with the sweetness of an Oneg Shabbat / Pleasure of Shabbat and a renewed appreciation of our Jewish homeland.

More information about the January 9th and April 3rd mini-Shabbatons will be provided here in the weeks to come.
