Back Pressure Regulator Valve

A device for controlling and maintaining a uniform outlet gas pressure.

A pressure regulator is a valve that automatically cuts off the flow of a liquid or gas at a certain pressure. Regulators are used to allow high-pressure fluid supply lines or tanks to be reduced to safe and/or usable pressures for various applications.

A spring-loaded diaphragm-type pressure-relief valve which governs the pressure of the fuel delivered to the fuel injectors by the fuel pump and returning the excess to the tank.

A device for controlling the passage of fluid through a pipe or duct, esp. an automatic device allowing movement in one direction only

Regulator

The water main enters the house, goes past the hot water heater to the main valve, through the meter, past the regulator and through the wall. On the other side of the wall it goes up to the ceiling, splits, and comes back to the hot water heater. I suppose it could be worse. The regulator is supposed to, of course, regulate the water pressure so that high pressure does not blow out gaskets and such in faucets and toilets. The maximum pressure allowed by code is 80psi. Ours was measured at 160psi. The plumber had never seen it that high and couldn't understand how the rest of our plumbing had been able to survive.

NEVER TAKE A PROPANE TANK INDOORS. ATTEMPT THIS STEP ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED OUTDOOR AREA. Liberty Plus. To ensure that propane is being delivered by the tank and regulator, remove the hose to the nozzle assembly. Place your thumb over the outlet of the regulator and turn on the tank valve. Alternately apply and release your thumb. You should hear the regulator responding to the back pressure and you should smell and hear low-pressure propane being released.
