Quaint but durable Nohab railcar
Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP) seemingly had the ability to keep life expired traction in service productively way beyond it's 'use by' date. These Scania powered Nohab single railcars had been new in 1949, and this one was captured still at work as the 20th century drew to a close and looked to be in good condition. The picture, from memory, was taken in Evora which I seem to recall at the time was the limit of passenger operations eastwards. One gained the impression that rail travel in Portugal at the time, other than for main corridors such as Lisbon - Porto, was a means of last resort, their provision duplicated by a plethora of well utilised express coach services.

East Midlands Trains class 153 single car unit, 153310 leaves Crewe bound for Derby. Originally built by Leyland Bus at Workington as two car sets as class 155, all except a small number that were owned by West Yorkshire PTE were converted into single car units with the addition of a smaller cab at the former corridor connecting end by Hunslet Barclay in the late 80s early 90s.
