Welcome to the BABU website. We are a Canadian charity that exists to improve child health/healthcare in Nepal.

Babu, in Nepali, is used as a term of endearment towards a younger person who one respects.

Bringing About Better Understanding (BABU) exists to improve child health/healthcare in Nepal through preventative and curative medicine.
1) Preventative medicine: Educate population on simple public health issues
2) Curative medicine: Empower local healthcare professionals through knowledge share and equipment donation

As the name suggests, we strive t

Around Kathmandu

o help Canadians understand more about living in the developing world. This is done by arranging first hand visits for people to see the healthcare situation for themselves.  Please see our IDEAS - International Development and Exchange AdventureS.

BABU is a Canadian charity started by a group of concerned students having returned from Nepal. We are not able to stand by idle while children in this wonderful country suffer greatly due to lack of education and capacity.
Currently we operate through the International Friendship Childrens' Hospital which is run by Dr. Shanta Shakya - a Nepali man trained in Belarus whose life purpose is to serve the poor in his native land.

We encourage you to join us in this meaningful endeavour by visiting Nepal to see for yourself!

Please feel free to email for more information, suggestions, comments, etc.
