SHAPE International Toastmasters Club
at Mons

 Since 1992

The SHAPE International Toastmasters Club at Mons is a group of adults (18+ years) meeting twice a month. The Club was formed in 1992. Presently, it has 27 members from 12 countries. Our meetings are conducted in English and provide a friendly, positive and constructive atmosphere to hone skills in communication through spoken English, leadership and listening. As speakers and evaluators, we challenge ourselves to maximize our personal potential. The linguistic skills in the English language are on different levels, but our well structured meetings provide an excellent opportunity for both native and non-native English speakers to practice the use of the English language.

This is a club where Toastmasters learn by doing and by observing likeminded individuals perform. We have fun and make lasting friendships in a truly international environment. Additionally, Toastmasters follow a proven methodology that has evolved since Dr. Ralph Smedley started the first Toastmasters club in 1924. The method is taught through the manuals ‘Competent Communication & Competent Leadership’ which new members receive as part of their membership fees. Each speech project is designed to develop the member’s speaking skills one step at a time and every project builds upon existing learning. ‘Competent Leadership’ is a practical guide to becoming a better leader through participating and organizing meetings and contests that follow parliamentary procedure.  Additionally, new Toastmaster members receive other manuals to guide them, such as ‘Your Speaking Voice’, ‘Gestures – Your Body Speaks’ and ‘Effective Speech Evaluation’. The magazine ‘Toastmasters’ is also included in the subscription fee and is sent directly to the new members’ home address every month. This provides advice and an exchange of experiences with Toastmasters around the world.

The SHAPE International Toastmasters’ Club holds two training and education meetings each year with other clubs in Belgium. A speech contest is organized during the Autumn and Spring each year.

If you are interested in learning more about our club, please visit us at one of our meetings (normally on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday each month between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) usually in the SHAPE Club. (Please note that people who are not member of SHAPE require special access pass.) If you join Toastmasters (Communicators) International, please note that there is a small membership fee to pay. Visitors do not have to pay a membership fee.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our future meetings.
