FAQ

-Questions Concerning the Project-

1) When is this game coming out?

To be perfectly honest, we really can't say.  We've been working on this game for two years now, and while we've made a lot of headway into the creation of the game, we still have a loooong way to go before we have a finished product.  Once we are pretty sure of a release date, we'll be sure to get the news out.  Until then, we'll be posting up demos and videos regularly, so please check those out.

2) I have a great idea for an ability.  Can you put it in the game?

No.  We have thirty normal abilities and a huge amount of secret abilities already, not to mention some abilities that can only be used by certain helpers, etc.  The last thing we need right now is even more abilities in this game.  We don't care if you design it, model, it, animate it, or even program it into the game for us, we just really don't want any more abilities in this game.  We're sorry, but them's the breaks.  This answer applies to most suggestions about our game.  We really can't put in every good idea someone suggests, or we'd never get done.

3) Can I join the KCCh team?

Again, no.  We have ten team members, which is a very nice even number.  Every part of the game is being taken care of someone inside the team right now and any more people would only serve to make things confusing.  If we need someone else, we'll definitely get the word out about it, but for now, we're really just fine.

4) This will be better than anything HAL could make!

Okay, this isn't a question, but we still get this a lot.  Please, please please don't say this.  First of all, it's not true.  HAL, the creators of the official Kirby games, is a real game studio with many more resources at their disposal than we'll ever have.  Saying that a small group of mostly teenagers on the internet can make a game that's better than a game made by an official game studio is an insult to the game studio and is also very wrong.  HAL Labs is a very competent game studio that makes very fun games, and giving them any less credit is just wrong.

5) is this being made as a replacement for Kirby Wii because it was canceled?

No.  It was made because a couple of Kirby fans got together and wanted to make a Kirby fangame.  When we started working on this, two years ago, it was assumed that KGCN was still in the works.  Now that it seems to be stuck in development hell (though we may get surprise news about it at any time), a lot of people have referred to KCCh as a replacement for KWii.  KCCh wasn't meant to be a replacement to that game and still isn't now; it's meant to be a 2.5D Kirby fangame called Kirby: Cosmic Chaos.  However, some of the features we have now, such as the three-player co-op and the stacking system were put in to make this game sort of a bridge between KSSU and KWii in terms of gameplay style.

-Questions Concerning Abilities and Helpers-

5) Will there be ability mixing, like in Kirby 64?  How about like in Squeak Squad?

We have thirty normal abilities.  Thirty.  If we had ability mixing, we would have to program nine-hundred abilities.  Think about that for a minute.  That doesn't even include secret abilities, which would put us well over a thousand.  Considering that we're using KSS-style movesets, that'd mean that every single ability would have several different attacks and different hats.  That's programming, modelling and animating hell.  We are doing ability mixes like in SqSq, though, so the weapon abiilities, along with a few others, will be able to mix with the elemental abilities.  Besides that, though, we're keeping our hands clean of mixing.  Some people saw the beam Keke in our trailer and thought that helpers were able to do ability mixing, but that's something else, which leads us into the next question...

6) How does the helper system work?

This is a very general question, but we get so many different questions about this that we may as well tackle them all at once.  Unlike in KSS, helpers cannot be made in the stages.  Instead, they are all created in a separate area that's there for the sole purpose of helper creation and storage.  You can make and store an almost infinite number of helpers, but you can only create helpers after you find the template for that species.  Each species has a default ability and then usually some other abilities it can use.  For example, say you find the template for a Waddle Doo.  You go to the helper creation area and create a waddle doo helper.  Then you are able to nickname it if you so choose.  The Waddle Doo will start out with the Beam ability, but if you wanted to have a Waddle Doo with the parasol ability instead, then you would go into a level, gain the parasol ability and then throw the ability onto your Doo as if you were in KSS/SSU and wanted to create a Parasol Waddle Dee.   Because you have a Waddle Doo helper, though, it would become a Parasol Waddle Doo instead.  You can even customize helpers further by using spray cans on them to change their color.

7) Why did you replace the Wheel ability with Ring?

We didn't.  The old video of the Ring ability on our Youtube channel is really outdated and was made before we really had a good moveset for Ring yet.  Ring doesn't work anything like Wheel.  Wheel may not be a full ability, but the Mechanic ability is able to build Wheelie Bikes and then ride them with the same controls as the wheel ability.

8) Is the cook/paint ability a one-use or a full ability?

Cook is a full ability, but like the Magic ability in KSqSq, it still can work like a one-use ability, though only for Kirby.  If Kirby uses the one-use move, then he loses the ability.

-Questions Concerning Gameplay-

9) Is this a full 3d game?

A lot of people want Kirby to have a full 3d platformer, and that shows in the questions we have gotten from people following the project.  We have even gotten messages from angry people telling us that KCCh will not be a good game unless it is a full 3d platformer.  All the levels will be 2.5d platforming like K64.  However, every "area" of levels will have a hub "town", a bit like those in the 3d Sonic games.  Kirby and his helpers can explore these in full 3d without any fighting or the like.  This way we can preserve the original Kirby gameplay while still giving Kirby some time in full 3d.

10) Will there be minigames and sidegames?

Yes.  There will be lots of minigames that can be played alone, with friends, or online.  These will range from old staples like the Quick Draw to brand new games that are still quite simple and fun.  There will also be a lot of subgames, or parts of the game with different gameplay engines that are important to the story, on top of this.  We want to keep most of this secret for now, but we will say that one of the subgames is a shooter system as a throwback to many final bosses from the official games.

-Other Questions-

11) Will the storyline be simple or complex?

Many fans say that they want Kirby games to have more complex storylines, while other fans say that Kirby games aren't supposed to have complex storylines as that defeats the purpose of a Kirby game.  Most of us subscribe to the first opinion, but we are willing to meet both kinds of fans halfway.  No matter how you look at it, the storyline of KCCh will be more complex than any Kirby story to date.  It will have dialogue, some character development and even parts surrounding characters other than Kirby.  However, how much you want to look into the story is completely up to you.  We have taken great pains to make the story something that can be taken as a delightful romp without much depth, or as a very deep and epic storyline that's woven into the foundations of the Kirbyverse.  We let you decide if you want Kirby to have a deep and complex storyline or a simple one.
